The NL Tartan, designed in 1955 by Samuel B. Wilansky, holds deep symbolic meaning. The colours tell the story of the province: green for the pine forests, white for the snow, brown for Bell Island, known as the Iron Isle, and red representing the Royal Standard. These elements are inspired by the province’s anthem, "Ode to Newfoundland," celebrating the beauty and resilience of the land through all seasons, from summer’s sun-drenched hills to winter’s frozen landscapes.
